A Sundaresan

A tribute to musician and teacher A Sundaresan in connection with his death anniversary on July 7.

A Sundaresan (1932-2007) was a natural musician. His interest in music developed as a child and in his early years, Sundaresan was an inveterate concert-goer, diligently absorbing the music of the masters. His training in music came from greats such as Alathur Sivasubramania Iyer, D K Pattammal and Ramnad Krishnan. In particular, Sundaresan's music has the distinct feel of Ramnad Krishnan. He was also influenced by the Dhanammal School, and his enviable repertoire of rare compositions included a few from the Dhanammal tradition, too. Sundaresan devoted a large part of his musical career to teaching, and his enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge was unbounded. This programme is a tribute to A Sundaresan in connection with his death anniversary on July 7, and includes a couple of rare compositions.
